Collection: HUIYUAN ceramic
Huiyuan Zhang, a ceramic artist. Born into a Buddhist family, I have deeply understood the unity of all things and the self. Works such as the "Auspicious Clouds" and "Dharma Rain" series draw inspiration from Buddhist ritual objects, using the flow of clouds and rain to symbolize the dependent origination of the Dharma realm.
In my creative process, I entrust myself to the power of nature. Using natural ash glazes from pinewood, straw, and others, I work through wood firing and gas firing: in the former, I retreat behind the scenes, entrusting the brush to flame and ash; in the latter, I quietly observe the transmutation of glazes within the raging fire. Each act of throwing clay is a dialogue with all things and my inner self.
To me, ceramics are neither mere vessels nor decorations, but the condensation of life's experiences. Guiding viewers to reflect upon their inner nature and reconnect with nature itself—this is the practice where mind and matter meet.
